Description
The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of metals requires a combination of static tensile stresses, a special chemical environment and, a susceptibility of the material. Unfavourable combinations of these conditions can lead to the initiation and propagation of cracks.

Cast iron insert and copper canister
Handling
Explanation of how the FEP is treated
Intact canister. Neglected since stress corrosion cracking is considered unlikely and even if it occurred it would have no consequences for stability of the insert.
Failed canister. Neglected.
