Description

Within the ONDRAF/NIRAS near surface disposal programme for category A waste at Dessel, the FEP list is used as an input to alternative evolution scenario development, and as a tool for completeness checking of the assessment basis, scenarios and models used in long-term radiological safety assessment. A summary description of the latter is included here.

  • Relevance screening records either why the FEP can be excluded from the assessment, or to what parts it could be relevant (near field (NF), geosphere (GEO), biosphere (BIO), direct exposure (DE))
  • NF consideration records how FEPs relevant for the near field (i.e. the engineered facility) are taken into account
  • GEO consideration records how FEPs relevant for the geosphere (hydrogeological setting) are taken into account
  • BIO consideration records how FEPs relevant for the biosphere (human exposure or exposure of non-human biota) are taken into account
  • DE consideration records how FEPs relevant in a potential direct exposure (to the waste) setting are taken into account
