Description

The spontaneous disintegration of a nucleus to form one or more different nuclei, with the release of energy in the form of sub-atomic particles (alpha, beta) and/or gamma radiation. Radioactive isotopes are known as radionuclides. Ingrowth is the decay of a parent radionuclide to a daughter nuclide so that the amount of the daughter nuclide increases.
