Description

The formation and movement of magma (i.e. molten rock and associated materials) within the Earth's crust, including intrusion (emplacement) of magma into pre-existing rock.

Includes phreato-magmatism, which results from the interaction between magma and water.

FEP Effects

Description of FEP Effects

Pushing the waste upwards, cutting through the waste. Changes in host rock pore structure (gasses, fracture propagation, creation of preferential pathway). Changes in host rock geochemistry (heat effect due to increase in regional geothermal gradient). Dilution capacity of aquifer changes. Changes in rock mineralogy and properties could occur due to contact metamorphism, although this is expected to be laterally limited in extent.
