HTGRWG

High Temperature Gas Reactors Working Group (HTGR WG)

The MDEP High Temperature Gas Reactors Working Group (HTGR WG) was approved by MDEP Policy Group in September 2024. The group's work is focused on the safety issues of MDEP members designs of HTGRs.

The regulatory authorities and designers currently participating in the HTGRWG represent the following countries:

  • Argentina
  • People's Republic of China
  • Russia
  • South Africa

CORDEL, GIF and IAEA participate in the HTGR WG as an observers.

The main objectives of the HTGR WG are as follows:

  • to leverage resources and ensure that the HTGR designs reviews remain safety-focused;
  • to facilitate the exchange of information on key topics such as the implementation of the first principle of the Vienna Declaration, fuel safety, and on the materials selection, taking into account both design-specific and country-specific licensing differences.

The HTGR WG provides status updates to the MDEP Management Board (MB) during its biannual meetings.
