Description
The observed discontinuities in the Opalinus Clay are classified as follows single fracture faults, consisting of a single fracture plane and with a lateral extent in the order of metres to decametres; localised deformation zones, consisting of bounding faults and a cataclastically deformed inner zone; composite deformation zones, consisting of a localised deformation zone, surrounded by a damage zone; and joints.
