3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

The suite of computer codes, SPEEDI, has been developed for predicting the dose to the public from a plume released from a nuclear power plant. The main codes comprising SPEEDI are: WIND04, PRWDA, and CIDE. WIND04 calculates three- dimensional mass-conservative windfields. PRWDA calculates concentration distributions, and CIDE estimates the external and internal doses.
The EXPRESS package consists of three codes EXPRESS-I, EXPRESS-IS an EXPRESS-II. EXPRESS-I is the mass-consistent wind field model and EXPRESS-II the atmospheric dispersion model. EXPRESS-II is the modified (simplified) version of EXPRESS-I. These codes can be run on UNIX-based workstations.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

WIND04 ---- Succesive Overrelaxation method.
PRWDA  ---- Random-walk method.
CIDE   ---- Cell-interation.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Computations: Mesh size:  250 or 500 or 1000 m horizontally
                           25 or  50 m         vertically
              Mesh number: 51 x 51      (topographical data)
47 x 47 x 21 (wind and concentration). Source data:  Release rates of noble gases and iodine.
Meteorological data: 40.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

For one hour prediction, WIND04, PRWDA and CIDE require 6, 36 and 9 sec of CPU time on FACOM VP-100, respectively.
NEA-1165/01
NEA-DB executed the test cases included in this package on an IBM 3083 computer. The following execution times were required: WINDO4: 246 secs; PRWDA: 680 secs; CIDE: 278 secs.

NEA-1165/02
NEA-DB executed the test cases included in this package on an IBM 3090 and a DEC VAX 6000-510 computer. The following CPU times were required:

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

These models can take into account the spatial and temporal variation of wind, variable topography, deposition and variable source intensity. These can be utilized for  real-time assessment.

8. RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS

Plotter program utilizes the CALCOMP plotter pen library. PRWDA uses the JAERI subroutine library to generate random numbers.
EXPRESS-II needs a random number generating function.
