The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) is organising the second international workshop on technology and components of accelerator driven systems (TCADS-2). The meeting will be held in Nantes, France on 21-24 May 2013, and will be hosted by the SUBATECH/Ecoles des Mines and co-sponsored by Institut National de Physique Nucléaire et de Physique de Particules (IN2P3) of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) France.

The accelerator driven system (ADS) is one of potential option of a transmutation system in terms of the partitioning and transmutation strategies for the radioactive wastes in the advanced nuclear fuel cycle. Followed by the success of the workshop series on the utilisation and reliability of the high power proton accelerators (HPPA) in 1998-2007, the first workshop was held in Karlsruhe (Germany) in 2010 with the new scope covering sub-critical systems as well as the use of neutron sources. This workshop will provide experts a forum to present and discuss state-of-the-art developments in the field of ADS and neutron sources.
The workshop will cover: R&D status on ADS including accelerators, neutron sources and sub-critical systems for current facilities and future experimental and power systems; technology, engineering and research aspects of the above components; system optimisation for reducing capital and operational costs; and the role of ADS in advanced fuel cycles.
Proposed topics and subjects to be discussed are:
Abstracts of 500 words maximum using the Instruction for authors should be sent before 1 December 2012 to the Secretariat by means of the “Registration form”. Authors are invited to indicate under which topic (scope above) their paper could be classified and if they would like to have an oral or a poster presentation.
Participants will be informed in January 2013 whether their paper has been accepted. Full papers of accepted abstracts and invited talks must reach the NEA Secretariat in electronic form by 10 May 2013.
Participants planning to attend the meeting without presenting a paper are invited to complete the “Registration form” before 10 May 2013.
No registration fee is required.
Nantes is a city in western France, located on the Loire River, 50 km from the Atlantic coast. It is the 6th largest city in France, while its metropolitan area ranks 8th with over 800,000 inhabitants. (Wikipedia).
The workshop will be hosted by the Ecole des Mines de Nantes, the engineering university of Nantes with a major research orientation towards energy systems and the environment.
Located to the north of Nantes on the banks of the river Erdre, Ecole des Mines de Nantes is in Atlanpole, a technology park dedicated to advanced technologies with several companies and higher education institutions and research centres.
By bus
With the dedicated bus
Especially for the conference purpose, a bus service will be set up from the railway station to the Ecole des Mines campus every morning at 8 a.m. (return bus at 6 p.m.). To get the bus, you should reach the railway station and get the "Sortie sud" ("south exit", in French). There are two exits at the railway station. The "sortie nord," which leads to the tram, while the "sortie sud" to the bus.
From the train station
Take the north exit, then the tram direction La Beaujoire to the terminus. Then take the bus 72 or 76 to Gachet / Carquefou and get off at Christian Pauc, just opposite the Ecole des Mines.
From the airport
Take the airport shuttle and get off at Commerce. Take the tram direction La Beaujoire to the terminus. Then take the bus 72 or 76 to Gachet / Carquefou and get off at Christian Pauc, just opposite the Ecole des Mines.
The schedule of buses and trams is available on the website of the TAN (Nantes public transport).
By car
Coming from Paris or Angers Take the exit "La Chapelle sur Erdre" and enter again on the motorway but this time for Paris and Angers. You thus made a half turn. Take the exit n° 24 to Nantes.
Coming from Rennes
Follow the direction of Angers and Paris. Take exit No. 24 Nantes East.
Coming from Cholet
Take the "périphérique" (ring road) towards Rennes and Vannes, exit at La Beaujoire then follow the direction of St Joseph de Porterie. Go through the town and follow the direction Atlanpole until you arrive at the Ecole des Mines.
Coming from Bordeaux Take the "périphérique" (ring road) south towards Angers and Paris. Once on the ring road follow the direction of Rennes, Vannes to La Beaujoire then follow the direction of St Joseph de Porterie. Go through the town and follow the direction Atlanpole until you arrive at the Ecole des Mines .
Coming from Vannes or St. Nazaire
Follow the direction of Paris and take exit No. 24 "Nantes Est".
The Ecole des Mines de Nantes is located in the countryside, far from the city centre. There are no hotels near the campus and no public transporation to the city centre after 9 p.m.
To enjoy Nantes, it is suggested that accommodation is arranged at a hotel in the city centre, and also close to the railway station:
On Wednesday evening (22nd May), there will be a dinner-cruise on the Bateaux Nantais. Additional guests are welcome, but will be asked to pay the correspondent cruise fee (72 Euros).
The cruise departs from "Gare fluviale", Quai de la Motte Rouge, and the duration is approximately one hour and a half. The dinner cruise includes a complete menu with drinks.
