The NEA makes presentations at the World Nuclear University Summer Institute
This summer, the NEA was invited to make several presentations during the World Nuclear University (WNU) Summer Institute held on 9 July-20 August 2011 at the University of Oxford's Christ Church College. Deputy Director-General Janice Dunn Lee gave an overview of the NEA, while Nuclear Safety Specialist Larry Burkhart discussed the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) and Senior Legal Adviser Ximena Vasquez-Maignan gave a presentation on nuclear law.
Supported annually by the NEA, this year's WNU brought together 80 fellows from 25 countries to attend an intensive six-week nuclear leadership development programme. The Summer Institute addresses important issues related to the development of peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology and helps foster a global perspective of how different countries are addressing these concerns. This year's programme featured a special session to discuss the impact and lessons learnt from the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Nuclear law11th session of the International School of Nuclear Law The 11th session of the International School of Nuclear Law (ISNL), a unique academic programme organised by the NEA and the University of Montpellier 1, took place on 22 August-2 September. Over the past eleven sessions, the ISNL has trained more than 600 participants from around the world. This session brought together 56 participants from 33 countries who benefited from lectures delivered by 25 highly renowned experts. Mr. Paul Bowden from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer served as programme leader and engaged participants in various Q&A sessions and case studies. A special panel was organised to address the Fukushima Daiichi accident and its impact on nuclear safety, radiological protection and emergency management instruments. Building on the success of the ISNL, the NEA has launched International Nuclear Law Essentials (INLE), a new one-week course in international nuclear law which will take place on 3-7 October 2011 in Paris. More information on INLE. |
