3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

The MELGENbrief is a program used to extract control volume information from the MELGEN output file of MELCOR code (v 1.8.6). The MELGENbrief program is designed for the MELCOR code user, which was developed by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The MELCOR code is available only under license from USNRC and may not be reproduced or disclosed, wholly or in part, by any Licensee to any other person or organization. This program provides simple information early in runtime and requires just one input. MELGEN, the output file name.

 

MELGENbrief is an open source software under GNU General Public License, version 2 (SPDX short identifier: GPL-2.0).

4. METHODS

Since the MELCOR code has a somewhat difficult to understand output file for the beginner, with various types of files, this tool was implemented to extract the basic information for the structure of the input after the execution of MELGEN.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Because MELGENbrief program uses the MELGEN output file of the MELCOR code as an input, it has to be ready the output file of MELGEN execution. There are no other restrictions.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The running time of the MELGENbrief program depends on the size of the input file. The running time of the 1,761KB input file is about a few seconds on an Intel i7-2600 CPU (3.40 GHz).

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

The input file of MELGENbrief program shall be same with the MELGENbrief execution file in working directory. Input files in other directories are not considered. If the input file is not in the same directory, an error message is displayed and the program terminated.

The output file of the MELGENbrief program can be easily reviewed as a text file, so that it can support the MELCOR beginners without other tools.

- If the user wants to use this program in a different OS system, it is possible to recompile the Fortran source file.

- If the user wants to use the program for another version of MELCOR code (other than v 1.8.6), it can be done through modification of the source file according to the MELCOR code output format. Within the program source file, the comment about the check point according to the MELCOR version has been added.
