Nuclear safety

The NEA Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities (CNRA) will hold a workshop on Human Resource Management in Safety and Regulation on 25-26 October 2005
in Stockholm, Sweden. The main purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for the exchange of information on regulatory activities from a knowledge management perspective. More information is available at www.oecd-nea.org/nsd/workshops/hrm/

Radiological protection

The NEA Committee on Radiation Protection and Public Health (CRPPH) met on 8-10 March 2005 to review its achievements during 2004 and discuss its programme of work for 2005. The main decisions taken by the CRPPH during the meeting were to:

  • hold the third NEA/International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) forum on broad stakeholder discussions of the next (and probably final) draft of the new ICRP radiological protection recommendations. The forum is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2006;
  • organise the third Asian Regional Workshop on the Evolution of the System of Radiological Protection in the late spring of 2006. This was decided after consultation with the ICRP and Japanese members of the CRPPH;
  • create the Expert Group on Radiological Protection Science at the Service of Stakeholders (EGSS), which will continue the CRPPH's work on stakeholder involvement and build on the momentum of the Villigen series of workshops;
  • continue its work to develop a new CRPPH collective opinion identifying emerging challenges in the areas of risk assessment (scientific developments) and risk management (social and political evolution).
