3. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION

Auxiliary routine implementing  the albedo option in the MORSE Monte Carlo code. BREESE-2 processes  albedo data to produce cumulative distribution functions to be used  in MORSE. The other routines are used in the MORSE run itself for treating albedo scattering and estimating to detectors.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

These routines provide for albedo use in the MORSE Monte Carlo code. The albedo data is a function of incident energy group, incident polar angle and reflected energy group. Albedo routines perform the reflection and allow estimating contribution from the albedo point to the detector location.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Because of the amount of data that could be involved, it is often necessary that the input data to BREESE albedo tape generator have had the energy group structure collapsed in the CARP run.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

The BREESE albedo tape generator runs in less than 1 minute on an IBM 370/195 for most cases. The running time for the MORSE run is highly dependent on the geometry and materials involved rather than on the fact that albedoes are involved. The sample problem ran 3000 histories of approximately 36000 collisions  in less than 6 min. on the IBM 370/195 while a longer 47000 history  problem was a 32 min. run.

NEA-DB executed the test case on IBM 3081 in the following CPU times:
     BREESE-2 run:     3 seconds.
     MORSE-CG run:   200 seconds.

11. MACHINE REQUIREMENTS

A. IBM 370 series - Flexibly dimensioned - size dependent on number     of groups and angles in problem.
B. Tape generator uses 2 tapes - one for input albedoes and one for  output. MORSE albedo requires only the output data from tape  generator as input, other MORSE tape requirements may be  determined by the user by referring to ORNL-4972, the MORSE     report.
