3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

SIMPLE calculates two- dimensional hydrodynamics and heat flow over a rectangular Lagrange  mesh. The code has been provided to give a realistic approximation to a complete computer application, as opposed to the use of inner loops, for timing studies on new machines. SIMPLE was prepared as a
test vehicle, or benchmark problem, for the development of a language to express data-driven computation. In SIMPLE two types of  boundary conditions are available: (1) a pressure may be applied to  any surface and (2) the component of acceleration normal to the surface may be set = 0 along any surface.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

An integral method is used to solve the explicit hydrodynamic calculation, and a coordinate transformation from physical to Lagrange space coupled with a LU decomposition is used to solve the implicit heat flow problem.

The test case included in this package has been executed at NEA-DB on a DEC VAX 6000-510 in 210 seconds; and on a PC/80486 (66MHz) in 49 seconds.
