3. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION

LINDA implements a diagnostic
procedure   which  depends   upon  the   hypothesis  that   strain
measurements obtained from a linear elastic structural test should
be proportional to the applied  loads.  Nonlinearities in the data
from such a test are expected to arise from errors in measuring or
recording  either  the  strains  or  the  loads.   The  diagnostic
procedure provides a means to identify and distinguish between the
two types of errors.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The algorithm for evaluating strain-gage data
obtained from  linear elastic  tests is  based upon  the use  of a
series of least-square fits.  Data are subjected to three distinct
tests:  the  linearity test,  the variability  test,  and a  load-
adjustment test.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

The    code     is
currently dimensioned to handle data  from 400 strain rosettes and
9 load steps.

Approximately 30  seconds of  CPU time  are
required to run the sample problem.
