3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

This package contains versions  KENO-Va-SM (Shared Memory version) and KENO-Va-PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine version) based on SCALE-4.1. KENO-Va three-dimensional Boltzmann transport equation for neutron multiplying systems. The primary purpose of KENO-Va is to determine k-effective. Other calculated quantities include lifetime and generation time, energy-dependent leakages, energy- and region-dependent absorptions, fissions, fluxes, and fission densities.

As for the scalar original (scalar) version of KENO-Va  CPU time is problem-dependent. It is slightly larger compared to the scalar code but wall clock time can be drastically reduced due to the inherent parallelism (about 95% of coding is parallel). The present version was executed in a four processors computer in single-user mode and the speed-up achieved was 3.5.

As for the scalar original (scalar) version of KENO-Va  CPU time is problem-dependent. It is slightly larger compared to the scalar code but wall clock time can be drastically reduced due to the inherent parallelism (about 95% of coding is parallel). The present version was executed in a FDDI cluster of six HP9000/735 using the message-passing library PVM. A shipping case was studied and mapped in such a way that the master was running in one node and five slave programs were executing in the rest of the network nodes. The speed-up obtained was 3.6.
