3. NATURE OF THE PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

SIMPLED-4 solves the one- dimensional diffusion equation and its adjoint equation in finite spherical, cylindrical and plane geometries, and computes DK/K of the perturbed system by the first order perturbation method. The code uses the JAERI-Fast set and ABBN set composed of 25-group cross sections, and deals with the heterogeneity effects of fuel elements  by the equivalence relation. The code is able to compute the nuclear characteristics of central void reactors.
Can be used as the outer boundary conditions of the system.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

For the diffusion equation, the source iteration technique is used.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Number of regions and mesh intervals must be less than 10 and less than 100, respectively. The cross section library tape must be prepared for the code by the  JAERI LTFR-4 programme.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

About 2.2 minutes are required for a two region sphere, 80 mesh intervals and one perturbation calculation problem on the IBM 360/75 computer.

For a void region, a suitable boundary condition is set up.
