3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

FEDGROUP transforms card image evaluated neutron nuclear data files into working format RFOD; calculates group constants for reactor physics purposes (group averaged infinite dilute and resonance screened cross sections, elastic and inelastic energy transfer matrices), compiles group constant libraries. Types of evaluated files which can be processed are: ENDF/B, KEDAK, UKNDL and Livermore ENDF in ENDF/B format.

FEDROUP-C treats in addition ENDF/B-V files.

For numerical integration trapezoidal Simpson's and Romberg's rules are used.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM:  There are no essential restrictions.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

FEDGROUP-C: Production of U-235 69-WIMS group structure from ENDF/B-V takes about 1400 seconds on CYBER 174 for one temperature and seven different values of the background potential scattering cross section.

The 3 test cases included in this package ran at NEA-DB on a CYBER CDC 830 computer. The following CPU times were required:  case 1: 50 secs; case 2: 336 secs; case 3: 2314 secs.

The 3 test cases included in this package were executed by NEA-DB on a VAX 8810 computer in 13 minutes of CPU time.

IAEA0830/10
The installation of this version plus the execution of  the three test problems requires about 5000 CPU seconds and 1000 I/O seconds on a CDC830.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

Relatively small storage requirements due to the dynamical programming; flexibility concerning the evaluated nuclear data files and the resulting group  constant libraries.

For internal conversion ENCODE, DECODE are used. In the case of other computers it may be necessary to change some subroutines controlling the data transfer between the program and files.
The source program contains coding both for CDC and VAX computers. The user should activate the part relative to the preferred computer platform.
