Established by the NEA in 2001 in co-operation with the University of Montpellier, the International School of Nuclear Law (ISNL) is an annual course designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the various legal issues relating to the safe, efficient and secure use of nuclear energy. To date, the programme has provided a special educational opportunity to more than 1000 graduate students and young professionals worldwide.

While the 2020 edition of the ISNL was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the NEA is hosting a roundtable discussion to celebrate what would have been the 20th anniversary of this unique course by addressing recent developments in international nuclear law.

The event is free and open to the public with registration, and will feature presentations by a number of ISNL lecturers, as well as panel discussions and Q&A sessions. Please note that the number of participants is limited and registrations will be handled on a first come, first served basis.

The NEA: Advanced thinking on nuclear energy

NEA membership consists of 33 countries representing 80% of the world's installed nuclear electricity generating capacity. The mission of the NEA is to assist its member countries in maintaining and further developing, through international co-operation, the scientific, technological and legal bases required for a safe, environmentally sound and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. It strives to provide authoritative assessments and to forge common understandings on key issues as input to government decisions on nuclear energy policy and to broader OECD analyses in areas such as energy and the sustainable development of low‑carbon economies. The information, data and analyses it provides draw on one of the best international networks of technical experts.
