3. DESCRIPTION

The HATAC Project consisted in the extraction of two fuel rod segments from two standard fuel mother rods irradiated respectively for three and four annual cycles in the Fessenheim plants, and to re-irradiate these segments named HATAC_C1 and HATAC_C2 in the SILOE reactor, equipped with a gas sweeping device. This allowed to follow the behaviour of several gaseous and volatile species isotopes (Xe-133, Xe-133m, Xe-135, Xe-135m, Xe-137, Kr-85m, Kr-88, Kr-87, Kr-89). The HATAC experiment (1965-1990) was conducted in the SILOE reactor because of the availability, next to the pool reactor, of a chemistry laboratory allowing an on line fission gas analysis. The SILOE reactor is shut down since 1992, and this facility is no more available.

Revision 1 was completed in September 2009 after discussions with G. Rossiter of National Nuclear Laboratory Ltd, UK. At this time a number of errors were noticed in the first issue of this dataset and have now been corrected. The errors and their corrections are given below:

1. There was double accounting of the thermal/total power when calculating clad temperatures. This had only a small effect on the numerical values.

2. In the base irradiation, in the calculation for clad temperatures, linear power (kW/m) and not kW/m2 was passed into the subroutine; this had a more significant effect on numeric values. Both these errors were corrected and new lines of coding are highlighted in Appendix 1.

3. The files for the Siloe irradiated segment were intermediate development files and were included by accident; the order of clad temperature and power were incorrect as was clad temperature. The correct files are included in this revision.

4. The figure 12 in the accompanying report showed Siloe transients 1 and 2 for segment C1 separated by a significant irradiation period, whereas the tabulated data did not show this separation. Therefore for the Siloe irradiation of C1, timestep 69 which had a duration of 389.8 hrs (immediately before transient 1) was split into two periods of 128.65 and 261.15 hrs and the timestep for transient 1 was inserted between them. This had the result that transient 1 took place earlier and was in accord with Figure 12 of the CEA/EDF report.
