The classes contained in package icsbep.metier.db.connection support the use of local databases. The DICE CD-ROM provides two versions of local databases in directory "Dice\databases". The first one is "Mckoi", a Java database that should run on almost any platform. The second is the "OracleLite" database to be used on Windows. The contents of these databases are the same and they reflect the status of data entries at the date of publication.

The central database is located at the NEA web site where corrections and additions are implemented as needed. The database is to be utilized by the user who wishes to access the latest version of the data entries. The connection is made through the Java Remote Method Invocation technique and does not require an extra driver or software besides a web connection.
