Expert Group on Multiscale Modeling Methods (M3)

Under the guidance of the Nuclear Science Committee (NSC) and under the mandate of the Working Party on Multi-scale Modelling of Materials (WPMM), the scope of the Expert Group on Multi-scale Modelling Methods (M3) is to provide an overview of the various methods and levels of models used for modelling materials for the nuclear industry (fuels and structural materials). The state of the art includes an overview of the methods but also the possibilities and limits of linking different scales.


Objectives

The objectives of the Expert Group are:

  1. Assess the possibilities and limits of both numerical methods applied to multiscale modelling of materials for nuclear energy and means to link them, in written form:

    • Brief outline of the methods as applied to nuclear materials
    • Advantages and disadvantages
    • Limits, needs and recommendations
  1. Foster exchange of experience and dissemination of knowledge gained by applying multi-scale tools to fuels and structural materials
