Representatives of NEA member countries convened to Paris on 23-24 October for the 148th session of the Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy. Serving as the NEA’s ruling body, it reviews the main pillars of the NEA’s programme of work and co-operative activities on a biannual basis.
The October session featured discussions on NEA’s 2025-2026 budget, ongoing and future activities, and global relations and co-operation with non-member countries, among other areas.
The NEA also presented the outcomes of recent events, such as Roadmaps to New Nuclear 2024, Safety Case Symposium 2024, Second International Workshop on Medical Radioisotopes Supply, as well as plans for the forthcoming events.
The meeting featured a policy briefing session dedicated to nuclear innovation and newly emerging disruptive technologies. Steering Committee members and experts from governments, industry, academia and non-governmental organisations discussed the challenges and opportunities related to new technologies, and pathways to enable their successful implementation. Delegates also noted the important role of international co-operation in addressing regulatory and workforce challenges to accelerate the adoption of new technologies.
The next Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy session will take place in April 2025.
