Joint NEA-IAEA symposium on probabilistic safety assessment for singular design reactors

The joint Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) symposium hosted by the United Kingdom’s Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) brought together experts from around the world to exchange on the use and application of Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) for reactors of singular designs. Held on 7-9 June in Liverpool, the event focused on small modular reactors, advanced modular reactors, research reactors and first of a kind or demonstration reactors.

The symposium provided a forum for regulators, reactor vendors and technical experts to discuss the potential benefits and application areas, challenges and solutions in the field of PSA for reactors of singular designs.

Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) is an integrated analysis technique used to determine the contributing factors to nuclear safety risk, and to evaluate the extent to which the overall design is well balanced and meets numerical safety targets. 

The NEA will publish the symposium proceedings which will include summarised results, presentations, conclusions and recommendations suggested during the discussions. Part of the report will be dedicated to the discussion of good practices and experiences.
