Discussing scientific issues and uncertainty analysis of nuclear reactor systems

WPRS Benchmark Workshop 2022

Participants of the WPRS Benchmark Workshop

The NEA Working Party on Scientific Issues and Uncertainty Analysis of Reactor Systems (WPRS) held its annual WPRS Benchmark Workshop on 30 May – 4 June 2022 in Aix-en-Provence, France. The hybrid event was hosted by IRESNE Institut, CEA Cadarache and gathered 172 experts from 22 countries to discuss the topics of reactor core neutronics, reactor core thermal-hydraulics, fuel performance and multi-physics aspects of light water reactors (LWR), sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFR), and lead-cooled fast reactors (LFR).

Participants also discussed the latest  updates on uncertainty analysis in modelling (UAM) benchmarks for LWR and SFR, the TVA-WB1 multiphysics benchmark, as well as new activities in LMFR T/H thermal-hydraulics, the neutronics of the ALFRED design, and machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The next WPRS Benchmark Workshop will take place in May 2023 in Bologna, Italy.

About the WPRS

Under the guidance of the Nuclear Science Committee (NSC), the Working Party on Scientific Issues and Uncertainty Analysis of Reactor Systems (WPRS) studies the reactor physics, fuel performance, and radiation transport and shielding in present and future nuclear power systems. The working party also studies the uncertainties associated with the modelling of these phenomena, particularly the modelling of reactor transient events.
