Registrations for the third session of the International Radiological Protection School (IRPS) are now closed. Thanks to the support of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) and the Centre for Radiation Protection Research (CRPR) of Stockholm University, the 2021 edition of the IRPS will be organised for the first time in a fully virtual venue on 23-27 August 2021.
The detailed programme of the e-IRPS-2021, currently in preparation, will be designed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the international radiation protection system, how it is intended to be interpreted for application in diverse and emerging circumstances, and how it is evolving based on lessons learned. The online school will be driven by the same spirit of knowledge transfer preparing tomorrow's leaders in radiological protection by learning from today's experts as the previous two editions. Comprehensive lectures and illustrative interactive case studies will be delivered by renowned experts in the multidisciplinary area of radiological protection.
The structure and content of the school will be adapted to make the most of the reduced schedule of live interactions with a preliminary phase in which the online portal for e-IRPS-2021 will be opened in July to provide refresher and learning materials so that the participants are well prepared for the daily three-hour live, interactive course from 23 to 27 August 2021. Case studies will be worked on by participants individually or in groups in the same time zone, and will be debriefed collectively on the last day of the school. A significant amount of time will also be allocated to answering participants' questions, which will be collected from accepted candidates during May.
Even though IRPS is a recent initiative launched by the NEA in 2018, it has already provided a unique educational opportunity to 75 young or mid-career professionals and graduate students from around the world. The capacity has been limited to 50 participants to facilitate interactions.
The deadline for applications was 30 April 2021.
