Task Group on Robustness of Electrical Systems of NPPs (ROBELSYS)
Completed

A Task Group on the Robustness of Electrical Systems of NPPs in Light of the Fukushima Daiichi Accident (ROBELSYS) had been set up to improve the understanding of nuclear power plant electrical system robustness and defence in depth by comparing design practices and plant emergency and operating procedures in member countries; to improve the safety review process of nuclear power plant electrical systems by learning from best practices in member countries; and to promote co-operation among member countries to improve safety.

To fulfill this objective, the group organised an International Workshop on Robustness of Electrical Systems of NPPs in Light of the Fukushima Daiichi Accident, where the lessons learnt from the Fukushima Daiichi accident regarding the electrical systems and the provisions taken by various countries in terms of requirements and design in order to enhance the robustness of these systems were idenfitied and discussed, especially as concerns the protection against extreme external hazards.

Participants

Members from Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States had taken part in this task.

The Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN) led the activity.
