At its June 2006 meeting, the Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities (CNRA) agreed to form a senior-level task group to produce a report called "The Regulatory Goal of Assuring Nuclear Safety".
The objective of the report was to understand how regulatory bodies can systematically collect and analyse all the relevant safety information available to them and arrive at a sound judgement on the acceptability of the level of safety of the facilities that they regulate. The report was published in February 2008.
The expert group was formed by members from Australia, Canada, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
