The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency has long recognised the importance of iodine behaviour and has organised workshops and international standard problems on the subject. In the meantime, experimental and modelling efforts have been pursued, aiming at the improvement of the knowledge and the predictive capability of calculation tools. This status paper reviews the insights gained and evaluates the progress made in an attempt to shedding light on the status of the understanding of iodine behaviour.
