The overall objective of the international OECD programme SERENA is to obtain convergence on the understanding of fuel-coolant interaction (FCI) processes and energetics, as well as on method(s) for reliable estimate of the magnitude of loadings for realistic reactor conditions, in order to bring understanding and predictability of FCI energetics to desirable levels for risk management.

This report documents the findings of Task 1 of SERENA. It is the first deliverable of the programme. It contains the individual contributions of the partners to the task and a synthesis of the results by the programme co-ordinator. General information on the programme and work content of Task 1 are given at the beginning of the report.
