This study is part of a series of analytical studies of the major aspects of nuclear legislation, originally in OECD Member countries only. It brings up to date the previous study on the same subject published in 1976 and this time expands it to cover non-OECD countries with legislation dealing with nuclear third party liability.
The analytical studies published to date are: Regulations governing Nuclear Installations and Radiation Protection (1972); Nuclear Third Party Liability (1976); Regulations governing the Transport of Radioactive Materials (1980); Regulatory and Institutional Framework for Nuclear Activities, Volume I (1983) and Volume II (1984); and The Regulation of Nuclear Trade, Volume I: International Aspects and Volume II: National Regulations (1988). In addition, a Description of Licensing Systems and Inspection of Nuclear Installations in OECD countries was published in 1986.
The study was prepared by the Secretariat with the assistance of the national experts in the countries concerned based on information available to the Secretariat in July 1990.
