NEA Global Forum Nuclear Education National Workshop in Poland

Over the years, the NEA has enhanced its engagement with academic institutions responsible for developing the next generation of nuclear science and technology experts. In 2021, the NEA established the Global Forum on Nuclear Education, Science, Technology and Policy (the NEA Global Forum), a strategic platform for co-operation amongst academic institutions, policymakers and key stakeholders in the nuclear energy sector and civil society.

A flagship initiative of the NEA Global Forum is the organisation of country-specific nuclear education national workshops, which serve as unique platforms bringing together key national stakeholders from academia, government, civil society and industry to foster a constructive dialogue on identifying challenges in human capacity building, overcoming barriers, and developing strategies to advance nuclear education programmes.

In this context, the NEA Global Forum and the Polish Ministry of Energy organised a Nuclear Education National Workshop in Poland from 17-18 March 2026, hosted by Warsaw University of Technology. The event discussed the future of nuclear education in Poland and the role of academia in developing the workforce needed to advance the nuclear energy sector in the country. More than 60 representatives from Polish universities, industry, and government, as well as international representatives from the NEA Global Forum Council of Advisors, shared their experiences, challenges encountered, best practices and ideas for supporting and further developing nuclear education in Poland. The perspectives were captured during the workshop and will be summarised in a report, which will outline the principles of a national strategy to enhance university education, in line with the future needs of the nuclear sector in the country.
