Thermodynamics of Advanced Fuels - International Database (TAF-ID) project, which has been running for over 10 years, uses the ‘Calphad’ method to develop a thermodynamic database as a computational tool for understanding fuel materials including advanced technology fuels (ATF). This thermodynamic database allows predicting phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of the phases.

The project also provides a forum for information exchange on thermodynamic models, review of experimental data, software evaluation, thermodynamic assessments, etc. TAF-ID brings together 12 participating organisations from Canada, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States and the European Commission.

Project members gathered for the latest review meeting in April 2025 and following this, in May 2025, version 19 of the database was launched to include new and updated assessments in the following materials systems: Np-O, Cr-Si, C-Fe-Si, C-Cr-Si, C-Ni-Si, Cr-Fe-Si, Cr-Ni-Si, Fe-Ni-Si, C-Fe-O, C-Cr-O, C-Ni-O, C-H-Si, C-H-O.
