• To provide the Member countries with up-to-date information on and develop consensus regarding: 
• Accelerator utilisation and reliability;
  • Deal with accelerator reliability issues 
• Target performance, including spallation products 
• Window performance, including thermal stress and radiation damage 
• Chemical partitioning; 
• Keep updated information on separation technologies, including the work of the Expert Group on Pyrochemistry 
• Deal with Aqueous processing issues 
• Fuels and materials; 
• Carry out studies needed for fuels and materials for transmutation systems 
• Physics and safety of transmutation systems; 
• Organise theoretical and experiment-based benchmarks on Minor Actinide Burner systems 
• Deal with the beam-trip issues 
• Perform sensitivity studies on important parameters 
• Deal with safety aspects of P&T systems 
• To liaise closely with other NEA working groups such as WPPR and to provide advice and support where required.
• To provide advice to the nuclear community on the developments needed to meet the requirements (data and methods, experiment validations, scenario studies) for implementing the different P&T scenarios. 
• Publish a state-of-the-art report after the 3 year study 
• Organise biennial Information Exchange Meetings on P&T in co-operation with the NEA Nuclear Development Committee (NDC) 
• To maintain, in collaboration with the NDC, an NEA-based Internet Web page providing information about on-going P&T activities.

Meetings

• The 1st meeting of the WPPT was held in Madrid, Spain, 10 December 2000. The 2nd WPPT meeting was held at the NEA Headquarters, France, 8 June 2001. The 3rd WPPT meeting took place in Reno, Nevada, USA, 16 November 2001 in conjunction with the AccApp & ADTTA 2001 conference in Reno.

• The 4th meeting of the WPPT is foreseen for 17 May 2002 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, following the NEA 3rd International Workshop on Utilisation and Reliability of High Power Proton Accelerators, 12-16 May 2002 (hosted by LANL, USA).

• The 5th meeting of the WPPT was held on 18 October 2002 in Jeju, Korea, following the NEA 7th Information Exchange Meeting on P&T, Jeju, Korea, 14-16 October 2002 (hosted by KAERI, KEPRI, KNS).
