ENTRY M0637 20060125 SUBENT M0637001 20060125 BIB 16 40 TITLE The photoneutron cross section of Ca-44. AUTHOR (P.D.HARTY,M.N.THOMPSON) INSTITUTE (3AULAML) REFERENCE (J,AUJ,34,505,1981) INC-SOURCE (BRST) FACILITY (BETAT,3AULAML) SAMPLE 3-g sample of isotopically enriched (98.5 % 44Ca) in form of a thin cylinder 25.4 mm in diameter and 3.9 mm thick. DETECTOR (BF3) 4PI Halpern-type neutron detector. METHOD (EXTB,SITA) The reaction yield curve measurement. A total of 33 yield curves were taken with the 44Ca sample and 15 yield curves with the sample removed, in order to determine te background effects due to the target holder. ANALYSIS (PLA) The variable bin Penfold-Leiss method for cross section unfolding from the averaged neutron yield curve. Above the 44Ca(G,2n) threshold at 19.1 MeV, allowance for neutron multiplicity was made on the basis of a statistical model, described by sambell and Spicer. S CORRECTION Reaction yield curve correction for photoneutron multiplicity. REL-REF (N,,R.W.SAMBELL+,J,NP/A,205,139,1973) The method of the reaction yield curve correction for photoneutron multiplicity. ERR-ANALYS (DATA-ERR) Statistical errors are given. STATUS (CURVE) Data from Fig. 1 were prepared at the MSU SINP CDFE by V.V.Varlamov. COMMENT Measurement of the photoneutron cross section 44Ca(g,sn) reaction (sn = n + np + 2n) has been made over the photon energy range 11 - 26 MeV. Comparison with 44Ca(g,p) cross section shows evidence for isospin splitting of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) in agreement eith predictions. some evidence has also been found for deformation splitting of the 44CA GDR.
