3. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION

INTRIGUE-II-L is an IBM 360 Subroutine Package for making linear, logarithmic and semilogarithmic graphs using the CALCOMP Plotter.
It is a subroutine package which requires a user written main program calling the particular routines required for any given problem. A wide variety of options is available including type of plot, method of presenting data (points only, connected points, histograms, etc.), size of grid and placement or legends.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION:  No special mathematical techniques are used.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

There is a data buffer 5000 words long which is ideal for most systems but might require a reduction on a computer with small core size. Users must have the bacis CALCOMP plotting routines for their particular CALCOMP configuration.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

To generate one plot would be under 30 seconds of machine time on an IBM 360/91. Of course, plotter time is involved and is dependent on which CALCOMP units the user has. For a fairly simple plot (1 curve, for example) under one minute would be  a good estimate.

This code is a version of INTRIGUE-II differing only in respect to letter and label size which are larger in INTRIGUE-II-L and, therefore, more suitable for reduction for publication purposes. The INTRIGUE-II code is a greatly modified and extended version of the original INTRIGUE (ORNL-3581,-3447).

11. MACHINE REQUIREMENTS

This code was designed for the IBM 360 System. It requires about 9600 single precision words of which 5000  is the data buffer mentioned above. The plotting data is written on  a 7 track magnetic tape which is then mounted on a tape unit of the  CALCOMP pen-and-ink plotter for plotting.

    The
code is all in FORTRAN except for subroutine GREEK which is in IBM-360 machine language. Users with machines other than IBM-360 will either recode GREEK or not use subroutine GRECO. It should be noted that the basic CALCOMP plotting routines distributed by California Computer Products are in the machine language for the particular computer system being used. At ORNL this is, of course, IBM-360 machine language. Any user must have the equivalent routines for his computer. The only operator action necessary is the mouting  of the plot tape.
