3. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION

K-TIF was developed for the numerical solution of the time-varying dynamics of steam and water in a pressurized water reactor (PWR) downcomer. The model is designed to describe the complicated countercurrent flow under start up, steady state and transient flow conditions covering as wide a set of experimental configurations as possible.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The differential equations of two-phase flow are solved by a finite-difference technique. The formulation requires the introduction of effective mixture and exchange functions. The walls that surround the computing region are typical  representations of free-slip rigid walls along the top and bottom, and periodic boundary conditions connect the two sides.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

The material speeds  are assumed to be much smaller than the sound speed at each point so that the microscopic material density for each phase is independent of position.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

NESC executed the sample problem in 220 CP seconds. Level 2 optimization was used for compilation.

The test case ran at NEA-DB on a CYBER 830 computer in  881 seconds of CPU time.

Dummy routines were supplied by NESC for completeness. Replacement subroutines appropriate in the user's computing environment will have to be provided.
