3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

Neutron transport, calculation  of multiplication factor and neutron fluxes in 2-D configurations: cell calculations, 2-D diffusion and transport, and burnup.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Resonance treatment: pointwise calculation of flux in 2 zones in the resonance range, and interpolation in tables  out of this range.
Cell calculation: integral transport method.
2-D x-y: diffusion or transport (quadruple P1).
Burnup: coupling of nuclides through matrices, development of nuclide densities as polynomials of the time.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Cells: cylindrical or slabs.
2-D: only x-y meshes, with homogenised cells.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

On a SUN SPARC station 5: UO2 cell calculation without burnup: 8 sec.
Full burnup calculation of a BWR fuel assembly with gadolinium rods: 6000 sec for 37 time points.

The test cases included in this package were executed at the NEA Data Bank. The following execution times were found: one hour for the bwrtimi (longest) case (on a sun4m); and 15 seconds for the trxli (shortest) case (on a sun 4u).

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

All the variables, including the integers, must be represented in 64 bit words.

8. RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS

BOXER is the lattice code of the ELCOS system for the quasistationary modeling of LWR. Some subroutines are stored on the subroutine library LWRLIB. BOXER uses  the cross sections from the cross section library BOXRAN prepared by the code ETOBOX.

The tests at the NEA Data Bank were performed under the unix systems Solaris 2.0 (SunOS 5.5.1); SunOS 5.3; and SunOS 5.3. The source codes were compiled with the SUN f77 compiler.
