3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

CASTHY calculates neutron cross sections of total, shape elastic scattering and compound nucleus formation with the optical model, and compound elastic, inelastic and capture cross sections by the statistical model. The other cross sections, such as (n,2n), (n,p), (n,f) reactions are treated as cross sections of competing processes, and their sum is given through input data. Capture gamma-ray spectra can also be calculated. The branching ratio for primary transition can be treated in a particular way, if required.

NEA Data Bank implemented the program on the following computers: (1) PC with Intel Pentium 200MHz processor; (2) IBM RISC/6000 Workstation; (3) DEC ALPHA Workstation. The execution times of the 11 test cases included in the package varied between 5 and 25 seconds for (1); between 5 and 39 seconds for (2); between 4 and 29 seconds for (3).
