3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

INTRUDE is designed to facilitate the estimation of individual risks arising from the possibility of intrusion into shallow land burial facilities for radioactive wastes. It considers a comprehensive inventory of up to  65 long-lived radionuclides and produces risk estimates for up to 20 modes of intrusion and up to 50 times of evaluation. The exposure pathways considered are:
- inhalation of radioactive materials by the intruder;
- external gamma irradiation of the intruder;
- long-term  pathways  esulting from  the  transfer of  radioactive
  materials to the surface of the site.
