3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

MAPLE plots fault trees with AND, OR, EOR, majority, NOT gates, primary events and non-developed  events (diamonds). Duplicate branches are automatically replaced by  input triangles.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

A tree containing approximately 250 elements  requires about 2 seconds of CPU time on an IBM 3033 computer.

The test cases included in this package were executed by NEA-DB on an IBM 3090 computer in less than one second.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

In order to reduce the width of the tree or to alter the layout, it is possible to lower gates by a
certain number of logical levels. Large trees can automatically be split and plotted on several sheets.

11. MACHINE REQUIREMENTS

The program is available in two versions requiring different plotting hardware:
MAPLE-A is a device-independent version. It can be run interactively under TSO or in batch mode and generates an intermediate graphics file, which can be used to produce drawings on different types of plotters or on a Tektronix storage tube terminal.
MAPLE-B can only be run in batch mode and produces a tape which is compatible with CALCOMP plotters. It uses the CALCOMP 748 graphic software. This version has not been made available to NEA-DB.
