3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

A suite of 26 programs designed to facilitate the appropriate statistical analysis and data handling of parametric and non-parametric data, using classical and modern univariate and multivariate methods.
top ]
4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Data is read entry by entry, using a choice of  input formats, and the resultant data bank is checked for out-of- range, rare, extreme or missing data.
The completed STATCAT data bank can be treated by a variety of descriptive and inferential statistical methods, and modified, using other standard programs as required.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM:

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

1-20 Mins CPU depending on complexity and size of data bank.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

The STATCAT system is designed to  minimise the errors that normally waste much computer time, and to encourage the use of statistics and statistical methods appropriate  to the data being treated.

8. RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS

The STATCAT system consists of 26 programs. Of these four are concerned with the establishment and validation of data banks, three provide primarily descriptive statistics, four carry out tests of samples, five carry out parametric analyses (analysis of variance, multiple regression, canonical analysis etc.), three provide 'exploratory' techniques, four handle plain-language data, five manipulate data banks (sorting, merging, synchronising input etc.), and two provide auxiliary services.
