3. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION

Steady-state thermo-hydraulic calculations in heated rod bundles with single phase flow. Conduction heat transfer in the rods and radiation heat transfer between the pins.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Gaussian elimination with total or partial pivoting for the fluid thermal-hydraulic calculations (marching forward), and overrelaxed finite differences technique for the heat conduction.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM:
Maximum 100 rods and 100 subchannels in the bundle.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

15 to 30 CP seconds per rod and per meter of  length in adiabatic cases (unheated). 120 to 300 CP seconds in heated cases using all options.

NEA-DB executed the test case included in this package  on a CDC CYBER 740 computer in 350 seconds of CPU time.

Differences in static pressures and specific enthalpies as well as direct Gaussian elimination procedure necessitate high precision calculation algorithm. Difficulties may be encountered when adapting CLUHET to computers other than CDC.
