3. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION

TIRION examines the atmos- pheric dispersion of radioactive material in a variety of weather conditions. With it, it is possible to calculate the doses to various organs consequent upon inhalation of the material and to make an estimate of the number of people likely to suffer acute or latent effects. In addition, contamination of the ground by acti- nides and gamma-emitters is considered. A probabilistic approach is adopted and the results can be presented as frequency-casualty curves.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Basic Gaussian model of atmospheric disper- sion modified to take into account radioactive decay, dry deposi- tions, and plume rise (where applicable). Inhalation factors based on ICRP lung model.  Standard dose-risk relationship.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM:  No more than 70 nuclides to be released.
