3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

FEM-RZ is a computer program for  solving multi-group neutron transport problems in two-dimensional cylindrical (r,z) geometry. It can solve not only eigenvalue problems but also other problems, such as fixed source  problems.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The method of higher order finite elements is used for the spatial variables. It is based on the discontinuous method with Galerkin-type scheme. The dicrete ordinate Sn method is used for the angular variables.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM:  No restrictions except for computer size.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

A three-group, S4, 4X3 mesh point, second order approximation, K-eff calculation requires about 0.1 minutes of FACOM 230-75 time.
