3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

CURFIT fits a polynomial to experimental data. SURFIT fits a surface in two variables to experimental data.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The classical least squares method is applied to a polynomial in standard form. The resulting normal equations are solved by Gaussian elimination.
