3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

An input scattering law S(alpha,beta) is read and the moments of scatter are calculated over an energy point or energy group mesh.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

See AEEW M 318 (UKAEA Report). Integrations over energy and angle are performed by Gaussian quadrature.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

The arrays can be increased in size to incorporate larger problems. Currently the input S(alpha,beta) can be described at up to 90 alpha and 90 beta points and the output data in 42 energy groups.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

12 minutes (ICL-470) to calculate and write to magnetic tape the isotropic and linearly anisotropic cross sections  in 42 groups (with upscatter to and sources from energies above these thermal groups) using an input S(alpha,beta) matrix.
