3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

Like the original SAFE-2D, the program performs the elastic stress analysis of general axisymetric, plane, and combined axisymmetric and plane composite structures.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

(The method is the same as for the original SAFE-2D). The finite element variational method is used. Equilibrium equations are solved by block or tri-diagonalization of the stiffness matrices.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

(Same as for SAFE-2D).

  2 degrees of freedom (radial or horizontal translation and axial or vertical translation)
  1200 nodal points
  2400 finite elements.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

Less than 2 minutes are required for a full capacity problem. About 3 seconds CPU are required for the sample problem.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

The following modifications have been made in respect to the original SAFE-2D program: improved mesh  generation and data check facilities, updating of subroutine STEEL,  correction of pressure and weight load calculation, calculation of equivalent stresses according to von Mises and Tresca criteria, searching for the most stressed element.
