3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

Solution of the mono-kinetic neutron transport equation in three-dimensional geometry.
This particular version of the programme ZEUS is used to study the propagation of neutrons in slits, tunnels or channels, whose width is small in comparison with its length or whose sigma-t is very small in comparison with that of its surroundings. These conditions  are necessary and sufficient to justify the use of the albedo idea on the boundaries.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Monte Carlo with modifications as in ZEUS. The nature of the problem requires the frequent use of angular bias  on the emission of neutrons and during the calculation, as well as,  in the case of fast neutrons, a good knowledge of the albedos for grazing incidence (Maerker model or cosine model).

Monokinetic problems. The programme dimensions correspond to that of an IBM 7094.
