3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

Pre-Equilibrium-Equilibrium
Gamma-And-Spin Code based on the unified model of nuclear reactions. Angular-momentum couplings correctly taken into account for all processes; nucleon as well as gamma emissions calculated with all possible cascades. Present version designed for reactions induced by nucleons.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Master equations of the exciton model; solved by algorithm of Chatterjee and Gupta. Gamma emission according to Oblozinsky. General philosophy of PEGAS code is derived from the nonspin version, named PEQAG.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Basic version: spins < 15h, exc. energy < 30 h, nucleon and gamma emission considered, up to 4 successive nucleons. The limitations in spin, energy, and number of successive nucleons may be shifted by simple readjusting of the dimensions of arrays.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

AT-386: about 1 hour for 15 MeV incident nucleon on medium-mass target with energy step of 0.5 MeV.

NEA-DB ran the test case included in this package on an 80486-compatible desktop computer in 12 minutes 48 seconds.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

Fully pre-equilibrium (master- equation) formalism, which is consistently used at all stages of the reaction. Correct application of angular-momentum couplings for the  particle and the gamma emission rates, as well as for the intermediate-state transmission rates. Full account of cascades with gammas and nucleons in arbitrary order. Easy to modify and calculate exclusive spectra.

The general philosophy of PEGAS follows closely that of previous, non-spin versions, named PEQAG and PEQGM.
