3. NATURE OF PHYSICAL PROBLEM SOLVED

RAM-1 calculates logarithmic derivatives of the thermal flux at the boundary of a control rod of  plane symmetry. These derivatives are meant to be used in few-group  diffusion codes.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The absorption probability of a neutron entering the rod is calculated by Monte Carlo techniques as a function of the angle of entering. From this function, the logarithmic derivative may be obtained.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Only slab geometry is allowed. The calculation is made in one group, i.e. the thermal group. The number of subregions within the rod may not exceed 10.
The maximum number of neutron packages is 50.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

A typical grey absorber may be run within 4 to 5 minutes with a statistical accurace of about one per cent on ICL 1905.
